"Objects of Change" is more than just a project; it is a profound exploration rooted in the intrinsic human need for social interaction. Extensive research has unequivocally underscored that human interaction is not merely a desire but a fundamental requirement, akin to the indispensable needs for sustenance like food and water. The repercussions of a dearth of meaningful interaction extend beyond mere isolation; they manifest in a tangible decline in both mental and physical well-being.

This project unfolds as a transformative journey, with the table standing as the second piece in a meticulously curated series of four. Each instalment is dedicated to delving into the untapped potential of furniture as a catalyst for human interaction, seeking to not only facilitate but elevate these connections. The table, as the inaugural piece, introduces an innovative interactive feature facilitated by the incorporation of black thermochromic vinyl on its surface.

The inherent magic of the thermochromic vinyl lies in its ability to dynamically respond to changes in its environment. A prime example is observed when a steaming cup of tea graces its surface; the vinyl, infused with thermochromic properties, undergoes a mesmerizing transformation in colour. This phenomenon creates an immediate and tangible interaction between the table and its user, transcending the conventional boundaries of furniture functionality.

In essence, the "Objects of Change" project is a holistic exploration that not only recognizes the imperative nature of social interaction but actively seeks to integrate this understanding into the very fabric of our living spaces. Through the transformative capabilities of the thermochromic vinyl, the table becomes a dynamic and responsive entity, symbolizing the potential for furniture not just to meet our physical needs but to actively contribute to the enhancement of our social and emotional well-being.

The intricate manufacturing process revolves around the meticulous combination of two distinct materials. Commencing with the initial and fundamental step of wood preparation, the process unfolds with a deliberate focus on achieving a harmonious synthesis of form and function.

The uniqueness of the table's design necessitated a thoughtful approach to crafting its legs. With two distinct legs, each leg underwent a bespoke manufacturing technique. The tubular leg took shape on the lathe, showcasing the precision achievable through this method. In contrast, the flat leg emerged as a result of a carefully orchestrated dance between the planar, table saw, and router, each contributing its specialized touch.

The table's top, a pivotal element in both aesthetics and utility, unfolds in two tiers. The crafting of these tiers involves a combination of the table saw, router, and planar, showcasing the versatility and precision of these tools.

The lower tier, aside from these processes, receives an additional layer of craftsmanship in the form of a hand-carved texture. This intentional detailing not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also serves a practical purpose. The textured surface provides a secure resting place for cups, offering a tactile and visually engaging element to the lower tier.

The higher tier, with its innovative use of thermochromic vinyl, adds another layer of sophistication to the table. This transformative material responds to temperature changes, creating an interactive and dynamic element in the table's design. The integration of thermochromic vinyl onto the table is achieved through a meticulous application of adhesive, ensuring a seamless and enduring union.

In essence, the multifaceted manufacturing process unfolds as a symphony of craftsmanship, where each step contributes to the overall harmony and functionality of the final product.
